About the UX Managing Lead role
A UX Managing Lead (ML) is a experienced practitioner and player-coach, typically charged with leading a small creative team comprised of Sr. Experience Designers and Experience Designers on a project or workstream. MLs work closely with either an AD or Director and are responsible for generating initial concepts, defining and refining de[1]sign strategies, and overseeing production teams. MLs are often active participants in client presentations, particularly during the Design and Build phases.
The ideal ML candidate is a multi-tool player, possessing a working knowledge of “how the sausage gets made” regarding digital experiences (art, copy, code, IA, UX, et al.), with demonstrated proficiency in one or two specific domains.
Successful MLs can explain and defend complicated ideas clearly and diplomatically, pointing to qualitative and quantitative research to explain their design decisions when necessary.
